Haunted England And SJB Network Support

Our recent work has been revolving mainly around our Haunted England Search Engine/Directory website, here are a list of some of the changes:

+ Tweaked Design

+ Added more sponsorship plans to allow deeplinking to help sites get better search engine result.

+ We’re also now allowing submissions to multiple categories for certain sponsored options.

+ Tag clouds have been added and more keywords will be placed as time goes on.

Other Work:

We’ve now set up a new website specifically aimed at support for all websites within the SJB Network including paranormal times, this is for technical and general support not for questions regarding hauntings or the paranormal, any submitted tickets regarding those topics will be directed to http://sjbowers.co.uk to choose a website within our network which may further assist them.

All forms on the various websites we run will eventually be set up to go into the support desk.

To use our support desk go to the following URL:

http://support.sjbowers.co.uk

SJB Entrance To The Network

Nothing major really, but it seemed we had a few websites, and no where clear to list them all correctly so what we did is made some where.

http://sjbowers.co.uk

You’ll find RSS feeds from the network sites, links to all the websites and even websites implemented by us on behalf of other organisation if they choose to be listed.

Gathering Dust

Well it seemed this blog was gather dust so bear with us a moment whilst we just blow it off……….

ohh errrr.

So what have we not been blogging about recently then, well not a great deal there’s been work going on behind the scenes but nothing to shout about so please bare with us through this mundane blog.

Well we’ve recently been commissioned by the UKBPA to assist with the building of their brand spanking, not even opened yet, never seen before website, I say commissioned but I suppose we’re kind of like sponsors in a way.

Please note though we are not members of the BPA and have not applied for membership.

Another website was recently launched, this one being the personal home of Mr Timothy Bowers, you can find his rants and raves at  http://auroral.co.uk and it’s not strictly paranormal, in fact it’s probably rarely paranormal

Although our radio station is ready to launch and raring to go, we’re going to hold off official launch till 2008, hopefully by that time we will have some other individuals or groups coming forward to run their own live weekly paranormal or spiritual show.

As mentioned in a previous blog our productions were also delayed until 2008, giving us time to concentrate on other area’s at the moment.

Two other websites are in the making and we’re in desperate need of some hard working literate volunteer, although for some reason it’s proving hard to find them, if anyone can hear us and feels capable of documenting history, research, etc, then please step forth into the light.

Well it’s nearly Christmas………………………………………………….

And thats about all to say today.

Tune in next time for another thrill instalment of boredom…………….. ;-)

Auroral - Characteristic of the dawn “a dim auroral glow”

I was going to create a personal website on Paranaormal Times, but then thought about it and realised that the majority of my posts may not be paranormal related, or if they are they may not be the most pleasant ones. I sat a pondered for a while and then thought sod it a new site it is.

Personally I see this as an 18+ site, strong language is used, and I wouldn’t bother looking either if your easily offended.

Here it is: http://auroral.co.uk/

And yeah I will share some of my gripes on there, it’s not all bad though, honest.

SJB Alternate & Paranormal Radio

Well we’re still streaming and it’s still going well, so we now need to consider going live and becoming official.

We’ve received some feed back from people around the world, not as much as hoped, but consider we really haven’t promoted it a great deal then it’s to be expected.

As mentioned in another blog we’re now syndicating the Haunted Voices Radio Network most of their shows are early morning for the Brits, however one of them does broadcast at 9pm (GMT), this show is hosted by Mark Turner of Ghost Finders Scotland.

Well this is kinda up to you guys and gals out there.  If you or your own group/club have got an idea for your own show and fancy a shot at presenting then get in touch for more details.

There are contact forms on the SJB radio website for you to get in touch should you wish.

www.sjbowers.com

Anything new?

Yeah sure, if you check out the SJB radio site you should now notice that you have a few ways to listen in, click the option of your choice.

Winamp - This will play from your computer and requires winamp to be installed.

Windows Media Player - Plays on-line from our website but requires the player to be installed on your computer.

Real Player -  Plays on-line from our website but requires the player to be installed on your computer.

Flash Player - Will play in your browser providing it supports flash which the majority do now.

Well  we may have a network manager, we’re speaking with him soon, should he accept (which he kinda already has), then he will deal with the schedule, details and chat through the SJB live shows.

We also have a phone system installed with both UK and American numbers, when you call these you’ll be presented with a list of options, including to call into live shows when the hosts permit.

Spammers = Tossers

Well it can’t be helped some people really have no life at all, ohh well perhaps one day they’ll hit puberty and find someone to settle down with, or perhaps they’ll just rot away.

Ok we’ve only just launched Paranormal times and have so far had an influx of spammers, which means we’ve had to change the way some of our free services work.

- New websites won’t be shown on our front page any longer

- Updated websites won’t be shown on our front page any longer

- Tutorials have been delayed whilst we deal with spammers.
+ We will now show all the latest PT news on the front page as a content filler.

We’ve made these changes to ensure that if someone signs up for to create a spam site, they will not be seen on our front page, allowing us to deal with these freaks of nature behind closed doors, well ok partially closed, as you can still see through the gaps ;-)

Active Blogs

You will only show in this block if you are one of the more active sites, this is determined by how many blogs you make.

Recent PT Blogs

Everytime you make a blog you will be shown in this block, however your first 5 blogs/news releases will not be shown, this is another way to tackle spammers, as most only make one or two posts.

We’ll post a less abusive version on the main PT site as news, and keep this one in the main SJB area.

Paranormal Podcast Day

Those of you that have been following the SJB radio project will be aware that we’re currently looking for new content and ways of streaming, well an idea sprung up the other day………………..

There are many people out there creating their very own paranormal podcasts and releasing them under the creative commons licence in such places as ITunes and through the main CC website.

Well one thing we’ve not yet seen done through web radio streams is the broadcast of podcasts, so we though this would be a great idea, not only does it give us content to stream, but it also allows other individuals, groups and clubs to get some airtime, so once we’re ready to officially launch the SJB paranormal and alternate radio stream will also commence with the paranormal podcast day.

For more details please see the SJB Radio site: www.sjbowers.com

If you, your group or club produces podcasts, or are just thinking about it, then get in touch we’re more than willing to stream your stuff.

In addition to this news, we should also mention we’ve recently added another 200+ songs to our archives for streaming, all by unsigned bands and artists, all licensed under the Creative Commons, this is also partly thanks to BeatPick.com whom have allowed us access to their archive of music.

http://www.beatpick.com - If you have any feedback on their artists then please get in touch with them, they’d love to hear from you and will pass on the information to those artists too. If you’d like to support those artists, then you can also buy their albums on-line from BeatPick.

If your also interested in running your own live show then get in touch via the SJB website.

Paranormal Times Launches - Get your free paranormal website

Ok well we’re officially open now and a press release was made on our networked websites, so your now able to sign up and start your very own community today.

You know I wrote an article regarding the launch about 2 or 3 weeks ago, and set the release date for the 30th August 2007. I’d totally forgot about it until I logged on to Ghosts-UK and realised we were now launched from the automated article release

Oh dear lol.

Our next site will be the SJB Paranormal & Alternate web radio station syndicating shows from the Haunted Voices Radio Corporation over from the US, as well as our own of course.

If you interested in being involved, perhaps as a guest or even running your own show then please let us know.

Are The Ghosts Back In The Closet

Well it seems that most of the paranormal communities around the web have quietened down recently, and those that are active seem to be due to their own team members keep the ship afloat.

So what’s happening?

Perhaps the Most Haunted Fad is now over, and people are seeing the light again rather than orbs, or perhaps they’re just board with it all, maybe there is only so much patients one person can have whilst waiting in those dark locations for something spectacular and hair-raising to happen.

I suppose the first sign of things slowing down where around the beginning of 2007, now it’s normal for on-line activity in the paranormal to have it’s up’s and downs in regards to popularity but certainly in the last 5 years or so since the first Most Haunted, this has to be an all time low.

Is this a bad thing?

I certainly don’t think so, perhaps now we’re starting to whiteness a new revolution or rebirth, something that many may have long forgotten, hmm what’s that word again? Ohhhh yeah ‘Normality’.

Quote:

a drastic and far-reaching change in ways of thinking and behaving; “the industrial revolution was also a cultural revolution”
wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn

The old timers of the paranormal, I’m sure you’ll remember the days gone by where you used to get contacted by locations having alleged paranormal activity, and they’d ask ‘How much do you charge?’, more often than not your reply would be something like ‘oh charge, erm…. we don’t do that, but a nice cuppa and perhaps a donation to our travel costs would be good’. When you contacted a location and it was free, then more than likely you’d have made a donation to them, especially if they had staff there too for the night.

Now you don’t get contacted, you have to contact them and are often faced with ridiculous charges.

Will this be the end of commercial paranormal groups?

Personally I don’t think it will be, there are still people out there willing to pay large sums of money to spend a night in alleged paranormal locations, and I’m sure the commercial paranormal companies are still thriving. Although saying that have you actually seen how many of them are out there now.

I’m sure there are a lot of established groups out there that pre-date Most Haunted, are hoping for the collapse of such companies, many believe they are the main cause for locations either closing their doors or charging extortionate prices, well that and of course Most Haunted which some people refer to as Most Taunted, or Most Farted, thanks to http://www.popnoodles.com/mostfarted/ If you’ve not watched the Most Farted clips then I’d urge you to pop over there and do so, personally I find them hilarious.

Did you know some of the commercial paranormal groups out there, now have contracts with many locations that prevent all other groups including none profit groups from accessing the location.

Provoking thoughts

I know the thoughts and opinions of various groups and individuals out there with regards to the television programs such as Most Haunted, Ghost Towns, etc. They feel that this type of media does indeed get people interested in the paranormal and opens it up, but it doesn’t provoke thought, criticism or logical thinking (at least most of the time), when most people get involved with the paranormal they expect it be a thrill seeking night like what these shows portray it to be, however the reality is far from this, investigations tend to be monotonous, with most using their digital camera’s and catching the ‘DORBs’ or ‘ABPORBS’ (Dust Orbs and Airborne particle orbs), many believe there are no possible scientific explanations or non that are credible as shows like Most Haunted have in the past suggested, and because it’s on TV they often see this as fact.

The problem as I see it is that most people are either total believers wanting to prove everything or total sceptics wanting to disprove everything, which often leads to heated debates from both sides of the fence that often results in abuse being thrown about.

A belief gives people hope, it warms their hearts, and comforts them in believing their loved ones are still around, and that everything they do in life will mean something once they pass over themselves. I have no problem with belief of any kind albeit religious or spiritual, but it does dishearten me when people have blind faith, you know what I mean, having a belief or faith were they actually know nothing or very little about it.

Personally I’ve had experiences which could be deemed as paranormal, but only because there was no visible and logical explanation, however this doesn’t mean it’s actually something supernatural, it could just mean I either didn’t look hard enough or further research would be needed. This is of course based on the definition of paranormal being unexplainable by modern science.

The word paranormal comes from the words “para” meaning beyond, and normal. So the term paranormal really means something that is beyond the normal scope of science or being beyond a scientific explanation.
knorton13.tripod.com/id33.html

Beyond normal experience.
www.thepeacefulplanet.com/glossary.html

I bet some maybe wondering why I’m writing about provoking thought when this article is about how quiet the paranormal is, well if people don’t question themselves, and try to improve what they are doing both with knowledge and experience, they will eventually bore of it all.

I could go on about why the paranormal is so quiet all day, but I won’t. So in summary the paranormal does seem to be getting rather quiet, there could be many causes for this, people getting on with their life’s, they could just be bored with it all, or perhaps they are just fed up with all the bickering that happens.

Are the ghosts back in the closet? I don’t know, maybe we’re waiting for a new birth of life, the next generation, or things may get back to normal, you know the way it used to be, before all the glamour and lights it’s attracted.

You never know if this continues the interest of ghosts and paranormal investigations may become a ghost itself. Hmm I wonder who would investigate that?

The Virus - Or something paranormal

Nahh nothing paranormal really, just a bloody virus.

I was working away, minding my own business and then bam!!! yup I got a virus on my main computer, couldn’t use window update, system restore, couldn’t install a virus checker or use the existing one, couldn’t do sod all with my computer.

I tried booking the computer into a VD clinic, but they said humans only, the bloody racists. ;-)

Thanks to that we’ve now lost about 48hrs of work as I had to do total format of the system, re-install, lost a load of data, backed up what I could though. Lucky enough most of the stuff was already backed up on a raid network drive. I spent hours trying to sort the problem first before giving up and resorting to a total format.

Lucky enough it was also just my system and no other team members, otherwise we’d be even further behind.

Well anyways I’m back.
