Haunted Voices Radio

Well, ermmmm what can I say, where should I start, I’d say the beginning normally but then this blog would be 5 and a half hours worth of chat.

OK well here goes, for the last 5 and a half hours I’ve been on the phone to Todd M. Bates, the President, Director and Radio Host for the HVRN Corporation for those of you wondering who the hell Todd Bates is, if you’ve never heard of him, well he’s the guy behind Haunted Voices Radio.

Yes we chatted for over 5 hours, mind you my friends always say I can talk the hind legs of a donkey, and I’m sure Todd’s now thinking “ouch my ears ache, ‘Mental note to self’ never call Tim again’

We talked about all sorts and not just the paranormal, which was very cool, I think both him and I a rather like minded, he seems a pretty cool guy.

So why did I contact him first?

Well if your following this blog you will be aware we’re looking for people to host shows on our radio, we looking for quality content and from what I heard of the Haunted Voices Radio, I likes it (yes I said likes and not liked ;-)) So I asked him if we could syndicate his shows, and ohh boy there are a few shows.

He agreed which is excellent, means we’re closer to launching the station that I first thought.

Who paid for the long phone bill?

Well the phone bill wasn’t long, it was only one call and anyway, no one, lol Todd uses some service to allow him to call the UK free of charge, which is pretty darn cool.

So what shows will be on the SJB Network?

Well rather than me right them out, I’m gonna be my usual lazy self and post the banners for their shows, lol.

Haunted Voices Radio

The After Hours Asylum

Cuts For The Nuts

Out Of The Vault

TAT - Tuesday After Twilight

PysTalk

The Paranormal Zone

Take a note of the last one, the presenter is Mark Turner, some of you may know him from Ghost Finders - Scotland Ghost Investigations - www.ghostfinders.co.uk Now I’ve not listened to Mark Turner but apparently it makes for an interesting show, so I’ll be sure to tune in when he’s on next.

For the UK listeners please note this times in the banners above are CST and not GMT or BST.

So this is interesting stuff, and I can’t wait to get some testing on the go, I’m really excited about this.

I was also pleasantly surprised that Todd has invited me to appear on one of his shows, next weekend, I believe this will be 4AM on Sunday morning, which should be 12th August 2007, hmmm he wants me to talk about Ouija boards, well this will be my first ever show on air, I’m gonna S**T a brick

Well we talked a lot more, but I’ll keep this short, and end the blog here.

Admin Messages

Rather than having to check here for updates, we’ve now installed a plugin that will allow us to write admin messages, these messages will appear on the dashboard of your sites admin area.

So when we get some new themes on here, or do some site updates, you’ll know as soon as you log into your admin area.

Don’t worry these messages will not be seen from the front end of your website.

Removal of spam from our front pages

There is not 100% way of blocking spammers, but there are measures you can take to deter them or complicate things for spam bots (automated ones) and we try our best to stop them ruining peoples fun.

If you notice a site that contains spam, illegal content, explicit content like porn, or anything that shouldn’t really be on a paranormal and spiritual website then just let one of us know, it will be removed.

Anyway the purpose of the blog is to say that if a site is deemed spam, we don’t delete it, we just mark it as spam so it’s not accessible to search engines or users, more like archived for future reference should legal action be taken, at first this still showed there updates on our home page, even if it wasn’t accessible it was annoying, well we’ve changed and updated the code thanks to a chap called Andrew.

Things could run quicker if IE was FireFox

Yawn……………………

Internet Explorer has always been a pain my backside, no offence to Microsoft and without getting too technical it just doesn’t support all the standards in web coding it should.

So why are we blogging on about this?

Well things are taking longer than they should be, because we have to test site designs in both IE and firefox, I know there are other browsers out there, but these two are the biggies We’re interested in at the moment.

A site can and it’s design can look fantastic in Firefox, but boot up Internet explorer and it’s a whole different ball game, well I’m sorry to say but we won’t spend hundreds of hours supporting IE, as they (MS) should be spending that time getting it right.

I will say one thing though and that’s Internet Explorer version 7 seems to be a lot more positive, yay they support positions like fixed in this one.

So if you won’t consider changing browsers, then please I beg of you upgrade to Internet Explorer 7.

And for those of you wanting to make a positive move and get a decent browser, I personally love FireFox, and best of all it’s free.

Ohh and if OutLook Express then why not consider Thunderbird, from the same guys that do Mozilla/Firefox and yes thats also free.

mmmm Free software, perhaps we should list a few, lol

Ok so you don’t like Microsoft Office, or you find it too expensive, if so then consider Open Office it’s FREE and supports all MS file extensions too.

There’s tons of free and open source software, all spy-ware free (be careful to check this out before using anything on your computer). If you have some recommendations then please let me know.

If you contemplating using Microsoft Vista, then perhaps you should take a look at the following links:

Filming

Well as some may know we’re currently filming various groups and commercial organisations for a series of paranormal productions that will stream from one of our networked websites.

Last night we were filming a commercial group called ‘Most Haunted Ghost Tours’ at the Conisbrough Castle, in South Yorkshire, some interesting results near the end involving their founder whom is also a medium.

Other productions have included so far:

Rotherham Ghosts - Red Lion in Pontefract

Freak Nights - Commercial - Location remains private

Most Haunted Ghost Tours - Commercial - Conisbrough Castle

Alfreton paranormal - AeroVenture - Aircraft Museum - Doncaster

If your group is interested in being in one of our productions then please let us know.

We’re hoping to launch the productions around October time of 2007

New Themes

Well there are currently about 250 themes that webmasters can choose from for their own blogs and websites, we’re just working through all these themes now giving them header images, tweaking the designs slightly, to kinda give them a little more of a paranormal/spiritual feel.

Out of the 250 we’ve probably got through about 25, so a long way to go yet lol.

Although Paranormal Times is not official live, people can now sign up for their own site, and in doing so will help us test the system a little more, should they choose.

YouTube, Google Videos, Myspace and more………..

We’ve now added support to websites so they can easily embed swf and flv files, along with:

YouTube - http://www.youtube.com

Google Videos - http://video.google.co.uk
Myspace - http://www.myspace.com

Ifilms - http://www.ifilm.com

Metacafe - http://www.metacafe.com

Revver - http://www.revver.com

DailyMotion - http://www.dailymotion.com

Itunes - For your Podcasts and perhaps EVP’s

Perhaps you’ve got your own video’s and sounds uploaded, or you just want to link to someone else’s and discuss them, either way the support is now here for you. Just go write an article or page and click the little ‘F’ for swf files or ‘M’ for movies (youtube, myspace, etc), the icon buttons will be found in the top of the visual editor.

So go forth and have fun ;-)

Ohh Here’s an example of a Video from YouTube:

SJB Paranormal Radio hits 123hrs

As mentioned in a previous blog, we’ve been streaming now for a while, only a test stream though. Well we’ve had various issues with our broadcasting software crashing, the longest the streams would last when unattended were about 8hrs, sometimes not even that.

Well there had to be a better way of doing this, and of course there was, The software we are using supports multiple databases, we were only using the in-software DB, so I installed another instances of mysql on the computer (not server) from which the broadcast was coming from, this helped create some stability but of course the software had to be slightly alterd in configuration to work with this type of database.

Long story short, since doing this, we’ve now been streaming for123 hours and 54 minutes and the stream has not gone down once. :-)

Some head ache pills please

well as usual something I scheduled 30 minutes for actually took 3 hours, lol.

I took the time to update the G-UK forums today, a couple of new new features, some site security fixes, etc.

Blog Sites

Well this is my first official blog, as you no doubt see this is one of the latest projects I’ve been working.

I’m hoping this website will help other paranormal groups new and more established to get a website of their own, I’m hoping to add forums, plenty of designs and so on, it should then give more options for other individuals and clubs.

For those wanting to support this site you could always donate or perhaps visit some of our sponsors.

Anyway with this being the first blog I won’t make it too long, I’ll no doubt add others as I go along, lol
